L A K H N E W A L A


Lakhnewala is a village of Mandi Bahauddin District in the Punjab province of Pakistan.
It is located at 32°37'40N 73°33'30E at an altitude of 220 metres. It is about 8 km east of Mandi Bahauddin. Rasul-Qadirabad Link Canal and Shaheedain waali in the west, Chak Fateh Shah, Kot Baloch, River Jhelum - Rasul Barrage & Govt. College of Technology Rasul in the north. Hillianwala railway station on West and Chak Basawa & Rakh Nihal Sing in South. (information provided by Munawer Hussain Gondal)

About Village Lakhnewala
Lakhnewala is a village of Mandi Bahauddin District in the Punjab province of Pakistan. It is located at 32°37'40N 73°33'30E at an altitude of 220 metres 725 feet. It is about 8 km east side of Mandi Bahauddin. Rasul-Qadirabad Link Canal and Shaheedain waali in west, Chak Fateh Shah, Kot Baloch, River Jhelum - Rasul Barrage & Govt. College of Technology Rasul in North. Famous Chillianwala railway station on West and Chak Basawa & Rakh Nihal Sing in South.
Climate is extreme however as the village is located between two rivers (River Jehlum and River Chenab) and because of proximity with the rivers the land is suitable for agriculture. The most important crops are wheat, rice, sugarcane and cotton which together account for more than 75% of the value of total crop output.
Area of the Village
Total area of the village is approximately 119,790,000 sq ft (approx. 11.13 km2.) that is about 2750 acres.
Weather
The Summer Season starts from April onwards where weather begins to warm; the hottest months are May, June and July with peak temperatures during noon (around 45°C). Winter Season begins in October; coldest months are December, January and February. We see signs of Frost in the month of January and February and temperature falls below the freezing points during nights. Winter days are generally pleasant maximum and minimum temperatures during winters are about 21.5°C and 5.1°C respectively. Rainfall varies considerably across various parts of the district, with annual average rainfall of about 435 mm.
Population
There are approximately 1400 houses in village & 7500 peoples live in them. Whole population of the village is Muslim.
Registered voters
The number of registered voters in the village is 2100 among them almost 40% of them are of female voters.
Culture of the Village
The ambiance of the village is open-minded and a little religious. The inhabitants are very respective, moderate, well educated and good host. There are many community centers (chupal) in the village. The individuals in the village have established the private chupal in large numbers. The promising youth of this village are in touch with sports and discussions which keep chupals and the grounds always occupied.
Way of living
Inhabitants of the village live a simple life. They have very friendly behavior and are very much hostile, peaceful and sincere. Agriculture being the main occupation, people of the village use to go to their lands early in morning to nurture their crops and cattle’s and return in the evening which makes their life schedule very busy.
Means of Earning
Majority of the people earn their livelihood through agriculture. Several people are in Government services covering almost all the government sectors. There is a new trend among the youth to go abroad that’s why many peoples of the village are found in UK, USA, France, Spain, Greece, Italy, Kuwait, Saudi-Arabia and Muscat etc. in search of their earnings. Many of the families are well settled abroad mainly in Europe; where we can say Europe is our second homeland.
Growing Business
There are several Bhathas (Bricks Plant) in the village & this business is growing rapidly.
Fish Farm
Fish Farm plays an important role in the village economy. Fisheries business is also developing very fast and is a good source of earning.
Dress
Shalwar Qameez and Tehband Kurta is common dress worn by the resident of Lakhnewala. However office employees, businessmen and students wear western outfits.
Main Crops of the Village
Land of this village is very fertile almost every crop of the world can be grown here. People use peter engine method for irrigation purposes.

Food
The food prepared in this village is simple. Wheat is the staple grain though rice is also used sparingly. Bread, butter, lassi, butter milk, tea, popular beverages (colas) and water are basically used.
Summer Vegetables
Chillies (mirch), okra (bhindi), bottle-gourd (ghia kaddu), vegetable marrow (chappan kaddu), squash melon (tinda), bitter-gourd (karela), pumpkin, (halwa kaddu), sponge- gourd (ghia and kali tori), ash- gourd (petha), cucumber (khira), arum (arvi) and cowpea (lobia).
Winter Vegetables
Cauliflower (phulgobhi), Cabbage (bandgobhi), Peas (matar), Tomato (tomatar), Radish (muli), Turnip (shalgam), Carrots (gajar), Brinjal (bengan), Spinach (palak), Fenugreek (methi), Onion (piaz), Garlic (lassan), Lettuce (salad) and French Bean (valaiti sem).

Animals of the village are:
1. Buffalos (bhainsein)
2. Cows and Bulls (gaey aur bael)
3. Sheeps (bhairain)
4. Goats (bakrian)
5. Hens (murgean)
6. Horses (ghoray)
7. Donkeys (gadhay)
8. Dogs (kutay)

Trees & flowers
Village land is very much fertile, availability of water is plenty of water although soil not suitable for GYMNOSPERMS and FERNS but ANGIOSPERMS are very much common in the village which includes both ornamental and wild. Main plants found in the village are as under:
1. Acacia species (kikar)
2. Dalbergia sisso (tahli)
3. Rosa indica (gulab)
4. Orange species (maltay aur methhay)
5. Guava (amrood)
6. Mangoes (aam)
7. Gomi (dhraik)

Communication and Media Facilities
PTCL Phones and Mobile Phones with services of all the Telecom companies are present in almost every house. Television and Radio is common form of media with all cable service providers available. Almost 50% homes in the village also possess Computers and use internet.
Schools and Education
Literacy rate of the village is much better. Almost every child of the village goes to school. There are two schools in the village, the Govt. boys Primary School and the Govt.Girls High School. There are also two private schools for boys and girls in the village.
Transportation.
People of the village mainly travel on van, rickshaw and their own vehicles.
Health Facilities (Hospital)
Basic Health Unit - There is hospital in the village; only one Doctor is present which is serving whole village. One female Health Worker of the village is working as a health worker. She is creating awareness among women about health related issues. Now after her guidance females are very much aware of pregnancy and birth etc.
Bazaars and markets
No Bazars or Markets are present in the village only few General stores (Karyana shops) are present which provide commodities of daily use. Peoples have to go city for major shopping.
Sports
Volleyball, Cricket, Football, Kabaddi, Hockey, Tent-pegging, Badminton are the common sports played in the Village.
Mosques
There are 3 Main mosques and only two 3 Madrisas.
